Leadership that’s rooted in well-being
According to a 2023 study[1], nearly 70% of employees say their manager impacts their mental health more than their therapist or doctor. That’s a staggering insight — and a wake-up call.
The same study found:
43% of employees are “often” or “always” exhausted at the end of the workday
71% say stress from work negatively affects their home life
64% report an impact on their overall well-being
62% say it strains their relationships
And it’s not just frontline staff — senior leaders are struggling too.
35% of C-suite leaders are “often” or “always” stressed
40% are considering quitting within the next year due to work-related stress
42% say their biggest source of stress is the pressure they put on themselves
We chose our name Moringa intentionally. The Moringa tree (pictured above), is native to the Indian subcontinent and is one of the most nutrient-dense plants on Earth. It thrives in harsh conditions — poor soil, drought, diverse climates — thanks to its deep, resilient roots. Its properties are known for lowering blood pressure, alleviating stress, fighting fatigue, and boosting overall health.
What an incredible picture for leadership.
Our training focuses on “becoming a rooted leader” — someone who leads others well by first leading themselves well. Poor habits, weak boundaries, and unhealthy stress responses don’t just affect us — they ripple out to those we lead.
But when we prioritise our own well-being — good sleep, nutrition, rest, and emotional regulation — we become like the Moringa tree: anchored, resilient, and a source of nourishment for others.
Questions for reflection:
- How does my current leadership style impact the mental health of those I lead?
- What signs of stress or burnout do I notice in myself — and how do I typically respond?
- Am I modelling healthy boundaries and habits for my team? If not, what needs to change?
- What are my current sources of nourishment — physically, emotionally, and mentally?
